Client: Resin Art Studio
A handmade resin art business needed an online store, but a small, frequently-changing catalog of one-of-a-kind pieces risked looking sparse or unfinished on a generic ecommerce template.
We looked at how other small-catalog, craft-led ecommerce brands structure their stores, and found the common failure mode was treating a 10-product store like a 500-product one: generic grids that make a curated catalog look empty.
Design around the catalog size rather than against it: fewer, larger product visuals, a collection structure that reads as curated rather than sparse, and a checkout with minimal friction for what's often an impulse-driven, visual purchase.
Large, fast-loading product photography as the primary layout driver, with collection pages built to feel intentional at a smaller scale rather than stretched to imitate a bigger store.
A custom Shopify theme built in Liquid, structured so the owner can add, retire, and reorganize one-of-a-kind pieces without needing developer help for routine catalog changes.
Image-heavy product pages tuned for fast load on mobile, where most of this store's traffic and purchase decisions happen.
Product and collection pages structured with clean metadata so individual pieces are indexable, not just the store homepage.
Accessible product forms and cart interactions, with sufficient contrast on price and CTA elements against product-photography backgrounds.
Small-catalog ecommerce needs its own design language. Borrowing patterns from large-catalog stores makes a curated shop look unfinished instead of intentional.
